RV with Robin WIlliams

In the spirit of being prepared, we just finished watching the movie RV with Robin Williams. My favorite part was the bad neighbors, no, no the racoons in the oven. No, it was the rain storm. No, no, it was definately when the RV got stuck. Anyway, about halfway through the movie I realized maybe I shouldn't laugh so hard, because any number of these things could happen to us.                                                      Click here to watch a clip

Our first RV modification to make Harvey accessible for Macey

We took out one seating bench and added a folding chair and a milk crate. This allows Macey to pull her wheelchair up to the table. We use the folding chair and the milk crate to support the bed when it is folded out.

Lesson # 2

S'mores should not be just for camping.

You never hear "Are we there yet?" in the RV

Home Sweet Home

Lesson #1 Be flexible!

Of course it took longer to load the RV than I thought. So, we left later than we were going to. So, it was dark when we arrived. So, when we found the boat dock on Fishtrap Lake, but did not find the campground we decided to just park and go to bed. No problem! The next morning we found that just around the corner from where we parked there was a sign that said "Campground"

Just for practice we took a trip to Pikeville, KY

Our Dream

Several years ago my husband, David, started talking about wanting to see the Redwood Forrest.  It was his dream. As time passed we talked about it more and more. In 2003 our beautiful twin girls were born and all of our dreams seemed to change to carseats and college funds. As the girls grew and we began to take weekend trips and annual vacations. This dream came alive again. But we wanted to wait till the girls were old enough and would really remember it. And at this point we not only wanted to see the Redwood Forrest, but Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and California.  Through the course of life events we began homeschooling when the girls were 6 and this dream became an educational choice to teach them American History. Today, our girls our nine and we plan to leave on our Road Trip USA this fall.

I have two reasons for writing this blog. As you can probably tell I am no expert at this blogging thing. First, I want to share our experience with our family and friends who want to travel along with us on this adventure. Second, one of my daughters has Cerebal Palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around. We have noticed that when we travel there are places that are "accessible" by legal standards, and there are places that are more than accessible. Some places make our visit delightful for my daughter. Some places are just not accessible by any standard. I would like to share our experiences with this so that perhaps someone might find the informationn helpful.
